X-Wings, fall in formation and swoop down to THE COMIC BUG (either location) to celebrate STAR WARS triumphant return to MARVEL COMICS!
STAR WARS #1 by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday launches January 14th and captures the spirit and fun of the original Star Wars trilogy like no comic before!
Show your STAR WARS spirit between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. by dressing up as your favorite STAR WARS character and receive a FREE copy of the first issue!
We'll have a slew of variants available too and special STAR WARS treats by our friend justJENN designs while supplies last!
The force is strong with this one, boys and girls! It's our first event of 2015 so let's blow it up like a DEATH STAR!
Celebrate the release of Deadpool: Art of War #4, Deadpool #41 and some exciting new titles from RadCo Publishing (BAD SUMMER by Ed Laroche and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night by Ana Lily Amirpour-who directed the critically acclaimed film of the same name). We're calling it DEADPOOLOOZA as it will be a freaky fun comic festival like none other!
Bad Summer writer/artist Ed LaRoche will be joining us to sign comics and meet fans from 5 to 8 p.m.
And putting the LOOZA in Deadpoolooza is none other than Deadpool illustrator SCOTT KOBLISH, who we have recently discovered is an amazingly talented singer/songwriter! Mr. Koblish will be going SIX STRING SAMURAI on us at 7:00 p.m. to bring us his chimichanga flavored folk rock! Here's a sample of what you can expect!
On January 24th, Comics and Comics will bring Sketch Fighter back to THE COMIC BUG.
Guest artists include ANDREW ROBINSON (The Fifth Beatle), LIVIO RAMONDELLI (Transformers) RAFAEL NAVARRO, SCOTT LOBDELL, and RALPH MIRANDA. All of the artists will create a drawing prior to the game and these drawings along with all art made during the game will be auctioned off and given to the HERO INITIATIVE.
These artists may be the best in their field when it comes to 30-day deadlines, but how will they do at sketching in 60 seconds or less? Likewise, their comedian tag-team partners may be quick on their feet on stage, but when their mic is traded for a marker, will they bomb? Only one team will emerge victorious and crowned Sketch Fighter Champions.
Following the game and the auction, the Comics and Comics stand-up show will take place, featuring the best all fanboy stand-up comedy in the Multiverse from JOE STARR, RON SWALLOW, ED GREER, TIM POWERS, SCOTT LOBDELL and TOM FRANCK.
INFERNO LOS ANGELES is a 136 page, full color graphic novel published in a deluxe over-sized hardcover edition by NeoClassics Press.
Over 700 years ago, the poet Dante Allighieri found his way to the Underworld from the dark wood outside his native Florence, and the adventure he recorded in The Inferno still haunts us to this day.
Now, in modern times, a new traveler finds his gateway to Hell beneath the urban jungle of the “City of Angels”. Inferno Los Angeles revisits Dante’s journey, weaving new characters and contemporary scenarios with the timelessly familiar scenes Dante described. It is an adventure of pure imagination, fraught with obstacles, monsters, horrific visions and prophecies — all visualized in an epic graphic style. Journey with him, as each step down this human whirlpool brings new dangers and monstrosities, as we delve ever deeper into the torments of our own minds.
You won’t understand comics until you misunderstand them!
We turn a jaundiced eye toward all that is wrong with the “invisible art”. Every innovative idea that still shuffles along past its much-deserved death, every awful web comic that still manages to rack up a million page views with recycled Star Wars jokes, the once great artists and writers who have become caricatures of their former selves, and the new talent ready to discover bold new ways to sell out.
The History of Comics – Why comics and “fine” art ain’t so different.
Misunderstanding Art – Why your skill and talent are holding you back.
How to Misunderstand Characters – How to create compelling characters, or do you even need to?
Storytelling – We distill ideas from the top names in comics, reducing a lifetime of innovation to a punchline.
Web Comics & Self-Publishing – When no one else will print your comic about prohibition-era anthropomorphic cats.
Manga & Everything Wrong with Japan – It’s not all school girl uniforms and tentacle rape. Just most of it.
Intellectual Comics – Feign intellectualism with bigger words and smaller fonts.
Comic Book Collectors & Other Fanboys – The people who pay your salary and how to exploit them.
Making Good Money with Bad Ideas – Take this book, for example.

A daring new superhero saga from New York Times best-selling creator Joshua Dysart - writer of of the Harvey-Award nominated series HARBINGER - and superstar artist Doug Braithwaite (UNITY, Justice)!
Toyo Harada is the most dangerous human being on the planet. Imbued with incredible powers of the mind, he has spent his life guiding humanity from the shadows. But today he is a wanted man. His powers are public knowledge, his allies have turned to enemies, and he is hunted by every government on the planet.
Instead of surrendering, Harada has one last unthinkable gambit to play: to achieve more, faster, and with less, he will build a coalition of the powerful, the unscrupulous and the insane. No longer content to demand a better future, he will recruit a violent legion from the darkest corners of the Earth to fight for it. The battle for utopia begins now.

Los Angeles is the birthplace of noir - because of the brighter the sunshine, the deeper the shadows, and the more deadly the mischief that goes on in the dark. Angeltown: The Nate Hollis Investigations reprints the original Vertigo mini-series in glorious black & white - the critically praised sequential mystery featuring the cool, tough private eye's frenzied search in the shadows for a pro hoopster wanted for murder in "Baller." Additionally, Gary Phillips (Operator 5), has penned two, original, illustrated prose short stories for this volume: "Hollywood Killer," wherein superhero pretenders prowling Hollywood Boulevard for tips are getting bumped off, and "King Cow," about cattle, lowriders, and babes with nazi tattoos.
Join us at our Culver City location to meet critically acclaimed crime author GARY PHILLIPS! He knows where the bodies are buried!
It's Steampunk Saturday at The Comic Bug as the creators of BOOM! STUDIOS LANTERN CITY come and sign copies of this critically acclaimed sci-fi adventure!
From the writings of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, to comics like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Lady Mechanika, the detailed and imagination-fueled steampunk movement has excited fans worldwide. Set in an original, sprawling steampunk world, Lantern City explores everything we love about the genre and what it takes to change a person's place in the world.
Sander Jorve just wants to keep his wife and son safe. Living in the brutalized lower class of Lantern City means living in near constant darkness, the enormous walls of the city always looming overhead, while the upper class enjoys the elevated, interconnected towers and airships above. When Sander's brother-in-law, the persuasive activist Kendal, convinces him to infiltrate the brutal ranks of the Guard, he's set on a dangerous path that will test his abilities and beliefs, all in the name of making a difference for his family and his caste.
Come check out this beautifully illustrated steampunk sensation! We'll leave a lantern on for you!

RUN DOWNHILL! Is it a band? Is it a comic book? Why choose, it's BOTH!
RUN DOWNHILL is an audio/visual experience like nothing you've ever seen (or heard)! Check 'em out over here. https://www.facebook.com/rundownhill
Come meet author/band member T.J. Troy at The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach anytime after 6:00 p.m. and make sure you stick around for the musical folk stylings of the RUN DOWNHILL band around 7:45.
SPURS, the latest CD/Comic Book album release from Run Downhill, centers around the town of Kilbourn, and a series of strange and extraordinary events. A small farming town, cut off from the rest of the territory by thick cut mountains, is awaiting the construction of a new rail spur to town, thereby connecting them to the Great Rail, and the rest of the civilized world. Old man William McCallister, head of the McCallister Rail Company, knows the worth of this rail line to the town, and chooses to leverage this power against the townsfolk, squeezing the town and bending them to his workmen’s will. But, a vicious mining accident and it’s aftermath leaves a trail of dead such as the peaceful town can’t bear to burden, especially in light of the recent (and very public) double murder of two of the town’s most beloved citizens at the hands of a McCallister man.
It'll be a good, old-fashioned hoedown at The Comic Bug! Banjos, fiddles and comics, a match made in campfire heaven!
It's that time of year again, folks! That time all of the retail world straps on their Santa hats and fires up their cash registers! Doorbusters, jingle bells and all that jazz!

In 2005, Joss Whedon was hired to write and direct a live action Wonder Woman feature. Years before the success of The Avengers, ultimately, the project and Whedon were abandoned and the project was left in limbo (Aka Development Hell!)
We got our hot little hands on a copy of this legendary script and will be bringing it to life with our very own Wonder Woman, Jennifer Wenger, in FULL costume. Joining us as Steve Trevor is actor/director Curtis Fortier.
We'll also be joined by Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan (writers of the current hit film MOMENTUM) and a handful of other comic creators, actors and actresses TBA!
This will probably be the closest opportunity to experiencing Joss Whedon's vision for the Amazonian Princess and it's totally FREE! Popcorn and beverages will be served.
Those of you who attended last year's Development Hell (Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods) knows what a fun and rare experience this is! See you here!
Utopia is here. Hunger, sickness, work...all relics of a long forgotten past. For the greater good of the human species, all individuality, creativity, and negative emotions have been genetically bred out and medically suppressed. The population is limited to segregated areas where people lead long lives of leisure, games, and socializing. Only one man and one woman seem to notice, care, or think differently. Once they find each other, their relationship sparks a revolution...but will their love cause the salvation or destruction of mankind?
