An Aurora Grimeon Story: Will O’ the Wisp explores the spooky world of a cemetery island in the southern swamps that time has passed by, its creepy cast of characters, and an old biological supply company; all through the eyes of a teenage girl. Along the way she discovers Hoodoo (a uniquely American magical practice), and delves deeply into it when mysterious happenings out in the swamp begin to threaten those on the island. The story features many authentic Hoodoo practices. This is the first self-contained story featuring Aurora and her pet raccoon Missy solving mysteries steeped in southern ghost stories.

Meet the creators of this phantasmagoric tale, writer Tom Hammock and illustrator Megan Hutchison Wednesday, February 19th from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Comic Bug and see this "impressively creepy" tale for yourself!

Wednesday, March 5, The Comic Bug will be experiencing BEATLEMANIA with Andrew Robinson! THE FIFTH BEATLE: THE BRIAN EPSTEIN STORY is a graphic novel by Vivek Tiwary, Andrew C Robinson and Kyle Baker.

The Fifth Beatle is the untold true story of Brian Epstein, the visionary manager who discovered and guided the Beatles - from their gigs in a tiny cellar in Liverpool to unprecedented international stardom. Yet more than merely the story of "The Man Who Made the Beatles," The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the struggle to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Brian himself died painfully lonely at the young age of thirty-two, having helped the Beatles prove through "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" that pop music could be an inspirational art form. He was homosexual when it was a felony to be so in the United Kingdom, Jewish at a time of anti-Semitism, and from Liverpool when it was considered just a dingy port town.

Come meet artist ANDREW ROBINSON from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. He'll have graphic novels and gorgeous art prints available to dazzle your eyes!beatle

His career was already firmly established for his outstanding work on characters like Batman, Wolverine, a myriad of beautiful covers and more... And then came Hellboy. Mike's iconic creation struck a meteoric chord with fans from the very start and has not abated in the 20 years since his debut.

This Artist's Edition features the first five issues of Hellboy in Hell as well as a wealth of historic supplementary material: the first three Hellboy stories-the two initial four-pagers, produced for promotional purposes, and the 10-page story from John Byrne's Nextmen #21- plus The Corpse, and two other tales selected by Mignola for inclusion.

Each page of Mike Mignola's Hellboy Artist's edition is shot from the original art and showcases Mignola's gorgeous work as closely as possible to the physical page-this is a book for fans of great storytelling and students of the craft."

Come by and check out some of his many titles and meet the writer of half of the new comic titles on the shelves!birthright01

Haven’t heard about BIRTHRIGHT yet? Creator/writer Joshua Williamson (NAILBITER, GHOSTED), artist Andrei Bressan, and colorist Adriano Lucas are the team behind this fantastic new title. BIRTHRIGHT begins with an innocent game of catch in the park and ends with a couple still in search of their missing son years later—never knowing what became of him when he disappeared into the woods that day. But of all their imagined scenarios, nothing could prepare them for what happened when he returned. So begins the new epic series, where fantasy becomes reality.

BIRTHRIGHT #1 (Diamond Code AUG140536) arrives in stores on 10/8, as an oversized 40 page issue, available for only $2.99.

Join us at The Comic Bug Culver City on Wednesday, November 19th as we celebrate the release of D.J. Kirkbride's THE BIGGER BANG!

This isn't a sit-com about a bunch of ne'er do well nerds that hang out with a beautiful blonde, this is a dark, mind-twisting birth of a new hero. An investigation into the creation... and perhaps the ultimate destruction of all mankind. All delivered with that special Kirkbride spice that only D.J. can add!

Tired of waking up at 4 a.m. to bust down doors at Best Buy or Target? Or looking for something to do after you've conquered all of the fellow shoppers at the big box chains?

Come on down to THE COMIC BUG, now serving your comic book needs with TWO LOCATIONS! It's time again for our annual BLACK LIGHTNING FRIDAY sale (now with added MAPOUPONS! MAPOUPONS are copyright/trademark The Comic Bug LLC.) What does this all mean?

In the spirit of Amazon's "Lightning Sale" where a product goes on sale for some insanely discounted price for an hour, The Comic Bug is the first BRICK and MORTAR in HISTORY to offer a variation on that theme, the BLACK LIGHTNING SALE! Black Lightning will descend from, well, wherever he usually spends his time (comic book limbo?) and electrify various departments of the store for two hour chunks of time! 75% off Back Issues? Yep! 50% off Trade Paperbacks? You betcha! 50% off NEW COMICS?!!!! Are we insane?!!! Well, you already know the answer to that. However, these drastic deals can't last all day, so you'll have to follow us either on FACEBOOK or TWITTER to see what deals BLACK LIGHTNING is dropping next and at what location!

That's not all! Make any purchase at either store (Comic Bug Manhattan Beach or Comic Bug Culver City) and receive an exclusive MAPOUPON! "What the hell is a MAPOUPON?" you're wondering? Well, it's not quite a MAP, it's not quite a COUPON, it's sorta a mixture of BOTH. Like a Clock Radio. Bring your MAPOUPON from one store to our OTHER location and receive a FREE NEW COMIC or 50% OFF ANY TRADE PAPERBACK or GRAPHIC NOVEL purchase!! And we will conveniently provide directions from store to store RIGHT THERE on the MAPOUPON!

The fun runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at both locations! However, our MANHATTAN BEACH SHOP is holding a very special DOORBUSTER sale in the Latverian Lounge from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., so if you wanna get an early start, that's a good place to kick things off!

We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! We THANK all of you for an amazing year of comics and geeky goodness!

...and now for something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

Join us for a fun, dramatic evening at our Manhattan Beach location for a table read of Frank Darabont's unfilmed classic INDIANA JONES and the CITY OF THE GODS!

When the script leaked a year or so after INDIANA JONES and the CRYSTAL SKULL was released, hard-core Indy fans were in an uproar that this, in many ways, superior, script wasn't the one chosen by the powers that be when it came time to roll cameras on the new Indy film.

Witness as some of comic-dom's greatest talents sit down to chew up the scenery on what might be the most unique event The Comic Bug has ever offered!

On January 24th, Comics and Comics will bring Sketch Fighter back to THE COMIC BUG.

Guest artists include ANDREW ROBINSON (The Fifth Beatle), LIVIO RAMONDELLI (Transformers) RAFAEL NAVARRO, SCOTT LOBDELL, and RALPH MIRANDA. All of the artists will create a drawing prior to the game and these drawings along with all art made during the game will be auctioned off and given to the HERO INITIATIVE.

These artists may be the best in their field when it comes to 30-day deadlines, but how will they do at sketching in 60 seconds or less? Likewise, their comedian tag-team partners may be quick on their feet on stage, but when their mic is traded for a marker, will they bomb? Only one team will emerge victorious and crowned Sketch Fighter Champions.

Following the game and the auction, the Comics and Comics stand-up show will take place, featuring the best all fanboy stand-up comedy in the Multiverse from JOE STARR, RON SWALLOW, ED GREER, TIM POWERS, SCOTT LOBDELL and TOM FRANCK.sketch

INFERNO LOS ANGELES is a 136 page, full color graphic novel published in a deluxe over-sized hardcover edition by NeoClassics Press.

Over 700 years ago, the poet Dante Allighieri found his way to the Underworld from the dark wood outside his native Florence, and the adventure he recorded in The Inferno still haunts us to this day.

Now, in modern times, a new traveler finds his gateway to Hell beneath the urban jungle of the “City of Angels”. Inferno Los Angeles revisits Dante’s journey, weaving new charinfernoacters and contemporary scenarios with the timelessly familiar scenes Dante described. It is an adventure of pure imagination, fraught with obstacles, monsters, horrific visions and prophecies — all visualized in an epic graphic style. Journey with him, as each step down this human whirlpool brings new dangers and monstrosities, as we delve ever deeper into the torments of our own minds.

You won’t understand comics until you misunderstand them!

We turn a jaundiced eye toward all that is wrong with the “invisible art”. Every innovative idea that still shuffles along past its much-deserved death, every awful web comic that still manages to rack up a million page views with recycled Star Wars jokes, the once great artists and writers who have become caricatures of their former selves, and the new talent ready to discover bold new ways to sell out.

    • The History of Comics – Why comics and “fine” art ain’t so different.
    • Misunderstanding Art – Why your skill and talent are holding you back.
    • How to Misunderstand Characters – How to create compelling characters, or do you even need to?
    • Storytelling – We distill ideas from the top names in comics, reducing a lifetime of innovation to a punchline.
    • Web Comics & Self-Publishing – When no one else will print your comic about prohibition-era anthropomorphic cats.
    • Manga & Everything Wrong with Japan – It’s not all school girl uniforms and tentacle rape. Just most of it.
    • Intellectual Comics – Feign intellectualism with bigger words and smaller fonts.
    • Comic Book Collectors & Other Fanboys – The people who pay your salary and how to exploit them.
    • Making Good Money with Bad Ideas – Take this book, for example.

    About the authors:

Tim Heiderich is a writer and longtime fan of comic books and comic art, both good and bad. Misunderstanding Comics is co-written and illustrated by Mike Rosen, the writer/illustrator behind the satirical adaptation of The Malleus Maleficarum: the Medieval Guide to Hunting Witches.

The Spire rises out of the minds co-creators, writer Si Spurrier and cartoonist Jeff Stokely — whose Six-Gun Gorilla  brought acclaim and (it’s assumed) the finest meats and cheese from throughout the land — and hails from BOOM! Studios this July.

This eight issue series focuses on Shå, the commander of the City Watch. Shå is charged with keeping the peace while she herself sidesteps prejudice, injustice and hatred for being more human than human while also more non-human than non-human. Shå is an outsider’s outsider. The Spire pivots around Shå’s investigation of a grisly murder that has taken place in the Spire’s lower levels, among the dregs, while higher up the socio-political ladder, a new power, the Baroness Tavi, ascends the throne.spire

AngelTownSC100Los Angeles is the birthplace of noir - because of the brighter the sunshine, the deeper the shadows, and the more deadly the mischief that goes on in the dark. Angeltown: The Nate Hollis Investigations reprints the original Vertigo mini-series in glorious black & white - the critically praised sequential mystery featuring the cool, tough private eye's frenzied search in the shadows for a pro hoopster wanted for murder in "Baller." Additionally, Gary Phillips (Operator 5), has penned two, original, illustrated prose short stories for this volume: "Hollywood Killer," wherein superhero pretenders prowling Hollywood Boulevard for tips are getting bumped off, and "King Cow," about cattle, lowriders, and babes with nazi tattoos.

It's Steampunk Saturday at The Comic Bug as the creators of BOOM! STUDIOS LANTERN CITY come and sign copies of this critically acclaimed sci-fi adventure!

From the writings of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, to comics like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Lady Mechanika, the detailed and imagination-fueled steampunk movement has excited fans worldwide. Set in an original, sprawling steampunk world, Lantern City explores everything we love about the genre and what it takes to change a person's place in the world.

Sander Jorve just wants to keep his wife and son safe. Living in the brutalized lower class of Lantern City means living in near constant darkness, the enormous walls of the city always looming overhead, while the upper class enjoys the elevated, interconnected towers and airships above. When Sander's brother-in-law, the persuasive activist Kendal, convinces him to infiltrate the brutal ranks of the Guard, he's set on a dangerous path that will test his abilities and beliefs, all in the name of making a difference for his family and his caste.

Come check out this beautifully illustrated steampunk sensation! We'll leave a lantern on for you!

RUN DOWNHILL! Is it a band? Is it a comic book? Why choose, it's BOTH!

RUN DOWNHILL is an audio/visual experience like nothing you've ever seen (or heard)! Check 'em out over here.
    https://www.facebook.com/rundownhill

Come meet author/band member T.J. Troy at The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach anytime after 6:00 p.m. and make sure you stick around for the musical folk stylings of the RUN DOWNHILL band around 7:45.

SPURS, the latest CD/Comic Book album release from Run Downhill, centers around the town of Kilbourn, and a series of strange and extraordinary events. A small farming town, cut off from the rest of the territory by thick cut mountains, is awaiting the construction of a new rail spur to town, thereby connecting them to the Great Rail, and the rest of the civilized world. Old man William McCallister, head of the McCallister Rail Company, knows the worth of this rail line to the town, and chooses to leverage this power against the townsfolk, squeezing the town and bending them to his workmen’s will. But, a vicious mining accident and it’s aftermath leaves a trail of dead such as the peaceful town can’t bear to burden, especially in light of the recent (and very public) double murder of two of the town’s most beloved citizens at the hands of a McCallister man.

It'll be a good, old-fashioned hoedown at The Comic Bug! Banjos, fiddles and comics, a match made in campfire heaven!run

In 2005, Joss Whedon was hired to write and direct a live action Wonder Woman feature. Years before the success of The Avengers, ultimately, the project and Whedon were abandoned and the project was left in limbo (Aka Development Hell!)

We got our hot little hands on a copy of this legendary script and will be bringing it to life with our very own Wonder Woman, Jennifer Wenger, in FULL costume. Joining us as Steve Trevor is actor/director Curtis Fortier.

We'll also be joined by Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan (writers of the current hit film MOMENTUM) and a handful of other comic creators, actors and actresses TBA!

This will probably be the closest opportunity to experiencing Joss Whedon's vision for the Amazonian Princess and it's totally FREE! Popcorn and beverages will be served.

Those of you who attended last year's Development Hell (Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods) knows what a fun and rare experience this is! See you here!WW

Utopia is here. Hunger, sickness, work...all relics of a long forgotten past. For the greater good of the human species, all individuality, creativity, and negative emotions have been genetically bred out and medically suppressed. The population is limited to segregated areas where people lead long lives of leisure, games, and socializing. Only one man and one woman seem to notice, care, or think differently. Once they find each other, their relationship sparks a revolution...but will their love cause the salvation or destruction of mankind?

Meet creator/writer Matt Hawkins, who will be visiting BOTH Comic Bug locations on the premiere day and handing out FREE copies of SYMMETRY #1. Matt has created many great works, POSTAL and THINK TANK being some of his most recent. He says that SYMMETRY is some of his best work yet and wants to make sure each and every one of you has an opportunity to see for yourself!

Matt will be at our Culver City location (4267 Overland Ave. Culver City, CA 90230) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then at our Manhattan Beach shop from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come get a free copy of SYMMETRY!symmetry

In 2150, Earth’s resources are depleted, and countries race to outer space to mine what they need from other planets. China has laid claim to Mars, so the U.S. and its allies have to make do with getting what it needs from the inhospitable world of Venus. But for a group of Americans making its way there, survival has become all too real. After their ship crash-lands on the planet, the scrappy crew is forced to do whatever it takes to navigate the harsh landscape in their journey to find the science base they were flying toward. In the vein of great adventure survival stories like Lost and The Martian, there’s only one reality on Venus—adapt or die.

Meet writers RICK LOVERD and FILIP SABLIK and partake in a special Q&A afterwards with genuine SCIENTISTS about the scientific accuracy of VENUS! A mind-bending evening awaits you!Venus

Play it again, Sam! We're reprising our table read of JOSS WHEDON'S WONDER WOMAN for WHEDONOPOLIS 2016, a convention that celebrates all things Joss Whedon!

Last year, we got our hands on Joss Whedon's script that he wrote in 2007. We performed the table read at The Comic Bug last December with actress/Wonder Woman cosplayer Jennifer Wenger in the starring role. Steve Trevor was brought to life by Curtis Fortier, who also blocked out and directed the piece. Narration is provided at a lightning pace by Adam Marcus and there is sound design and musical score provided by Chris Saunders of the Thirsty Crowes!

The cast is rounded out by Rafael Navarro, Eddie Jordan III, Kate Enggren, Tracy Drolet, Scott Koblish, Debra Sullivan and Mike Wellman.

The entire cast returns to bring WONDER WOMAN to life for attendees of WHEDONOPOLIS 2016 in full costume! This is a fun and rare opportunity to see what COULD have been!

Tickets for Whedonopolis 2016 are $20 for adults and $15 for kids under 13. Check out their website www.whedoncon.com to see all the exciting guests and activities they have planned for the weekend!WW

KurtMeet Sons of Anarchy creator KURT SUTTER in his first signing at a comic book store! We scheduled this event to coincide with LUCAS STAND #1, but had to postpone, but here we have it! Wednesday, August 17, just in time for the release of LUCAS STAND #3!

Lucas Stand is a military vet who can’t reintegrate into society and has emotionally cut himself off from the people he loves. At his lowest, Lucas does something he can’t take back. Hell comes calling, offering him the opportunity to make things right. Demons escaping Hell are upsetting the balance of evil, and now Lucifer has recruited Lucas to send them back. It doesn’t matter in what era the demons escape—World War II, old-timey Hollywood, Vietnam, present day—he must learn to fit in both the past and the present. Given new purpose, Lucas starts to rebuild himself and his life, even as he struggles at the human cost that comes with it.

Join us for an intimate look at the life and creative process of award-winning author NEIL GAIMAN! Director Patrick Meaney will be joining us for a Q&A following this fantastic film!
    gaiman
While working on Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods and Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, Sequart and Respect Films were cooking up another film, one that would take a few years to come to fruition. And now it’s almost ready to be released to the world: Neil Gaiman: Dream Dangerously. Thanks to the diligent work of producers Mike Phillips and Julian Darius, Neil Gaiman offered unprecedented access to filmmakers Patrick Meaney and Jordan Rennert on his final signing tour (the largest signing tour in history) and Neil’s farewell to life as a public figure before returning to writing full time.

Dream Dangerously offers viewers a fly-on-the-wall look at Neil on the road, interacting with fans and experiencing the struggles and joys of being an acclaimed public speaker and in-demand personality. At the same time, the film delves deeply into Neil’s writing process, exploring the childhood origins of his love of mythology, up to his struggles to keep his writing fresh after 25 years of successful storytelling.

The film includes unique interviews with Amanda Palmer, George RR Martin, Grant Morrison, Bill Hader, Michael Sheen, Kirsten Vangsness, Lenny Henry, Will Wheaton and many more key figures in Neil’s creative and personal life. Ultimately this is a portrait of one of our most beloved fantasy writers that shows the way that fantasy can be a mirror for the world around us, and for the writer himself.

THIS EVENT IS FREE to attend!

seventoeternityRick Remender returns to The Comic Bug!

Come celebrate the release of SEVEN TO ETERNITY with this RARE APPREARANCE of one of comics' most exciting and critically-acclaimed writers! Rick will be signing copies of Seven to Eternity at our Manhattan Beach shop from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Don't miss out!

    More about SEVEN TO ETERNITY:

Bestselling writer Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS, LOW, TOKYO GHOST), artist Jerome Opeña (Uncanny X-Force, Fear Agent), and colorist Matt Hollingsworth (TOKYO GHOST, WYTCHES) launch an all-new, jaw-dropping ongoing series in SEVEN TO ETERNITY this September.

In SEVEN TO ETERNITY, The God of Whispers has spread an omnipresent paranoia to every corner of the kingdom of Zhal; his spies hide in every hall spreading mistrust and fear. Adam Osidis, a dying knight from a disgraced house, must choose between joining a hopeless band of magic users in their desperate bid to free their world of the evil God, or accepting his promise to give Adam everything his heart desires.

“Before our time at Marvel, Jerome and I began working together at Image ten years ago on titles such as Strange Girl and Fear Agent so it’s very fitting we return now to tell the tale of the Seven to Eternity,” said Remender. “All those years ago we began discussing doing an epic fantasy tale at some point, should the planets ever align. A unique take on the familiar genre full of action, unexpected twists, totally unique characters and a villain who might end up stealing the show. It’s taken us a decade to get it together, but the wait was worth it. During the past decade we’ve collaborated on numerous projects and fine-tuned our mighty nerd skills to a point where what we produce here will eclipse our past collaborations and consume all evil in the universe and give a new pony to every child. This is without question Jerome’s best work to date and when you add super champion of color jive Matt Hollingsworth, once their powers are mixed into the art cauldron, something new and terrifying is born, a new level of sequential science.” Opeña added: "It's been a long time coming, so it's amazing that Rick and I are seeing a project we've been developing for years finally become a reality. Having Matt Hollingsworth join up with us makes it even more exciting and I hope readers will enjoy what we've all been tirelessly working on."

SEVEN TO ETERNITY takes readers on a hard road through the strange fantasy world of Zhal. All men have surrendered their freedom for fear. Now, one last free man must choose.

24-Hour Comics Day is an annual international celebration of comics creation. On this day, creative folks take on the 24 hour comics challenge: to create a 24 page comic book story, normally months worth of work, in 24 straight hours. Many participants gather at official event sites including comic book stores, schools, and libraries. Others take part in private gatherings, and many work on their own.

Every year since 2004 this event has taken place. The thousands of participants who have created tens of thousands of pages of original art have included the young and the old, people with decades of professional comics creation experience and those who have never tried to draw a panel before, at locations on at least five continents.

The OFFICIAL event date for 2016 is SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1st. The Comic Bug date is October 15.

The spirits of Greg Saunders and Adrian Chase are alive and well at DC,  but instead of the open prairie or the skyscrapers of Manhattan, the next Vigilante will be battling crime on the seedy backstreets of Los Angeles, as DC Entertainment announced today that THE VIGILANTE: SOUTHLAND, a six-issue miniseries written by Gary Phillips (Vertigo’s COWBOYS, Violent Spring, Perdition U.S.A.) with pencils and inks by Elena Casagrande, colors by Giulia Brusco and covers by Mitch Gerads (Vertigo’s SHERIFF OF BABYLON), will be hitting comic retailers October 5.

"This take on Vigilante incorporates current social and political issues making Vigilante: Southland both relevant and contemporary, which sounded like an incredible direction to tell new stories featuring this character,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “Gary’s experience with crime fiction will give Vigilante an edginess and grittiness that hasn’t been seen before.”

THE VIGILANTE: SOUTHLAND is the story of Donny Fairchild, a failed NBA player who’s just making ends meet as a maintenance man. When his girlfriend stumbles on a conspiracy to steal water rights through a series of shady land development deals, she’s mysteriously murdered. Once Donny starts getting too close to the cause of her death, his house is blown up and he’s left for dead. Determined to bring the killers to justice, Donny undergoes training from an urban legend known as The Eastsider to become a masked vigilante.

“THE VIGILANTE: SOUTHLAND is incredibly relevant to our times,” said writer Gary Phillips. “It’s a politically tinged story that touches on a myriad of contemporary issues, such as gun violence, class struggle and Black Lives Matter. The book also provides me an opportunity to contemporize classic issues/tropes like the fight over water rights in southern California. I’m very excited to show readers this character, reimagined for the 21st Century.”

I don't think I can say it any better than I did last Saturday night! Don't snooze on this one, folks!

No, it's because for the last two months, we've had a steady drip of customers asking to put it on their pull sheets, a drip that has become a stream here lately. It's a great concept "Calvin & Hobbes in the gritty underbelly of a Sin City-like world" and it is fabulously executed! I don't think I can say it any better than I did last Saturday night! Don't snooze on this one, folks!

Pretty sure this is going to be the indie comic sensation of 2017 and that's not because creator David Pepose is signing copies at Culver City THIS Wednesday from 11 to 2 and at Manhattan Beach on Wednesday, April 26 from 5 to 8.

No, it's because for the last two months, we've had a steady drip of customers asking to put it on their pull sheets, a drip that has become a stream here lately. It's a great concept "Calvin & Hobbes in the gritty underbelly of a Sin City-like world" and it is fabulously executed! Check out this link and come meet Mr. Pepose at our Culver City shop around lunchtime this Wednesday!spencer

On the heels of Tim Burton's hit BATMAN in 1989, the screenwriter, Sam Hamm was hired to bring Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's dystopic super-hero social commentary WATCHMEN to life for the big screen.

It never happened. Well, not until many years later when Zach Snyder gave us a literal film adaptation of the comic series. The gang at DEVELOPMENT HELL and SKELETON CREW PRODUCTIONS are taking on their biggest, most ambitious table read to date, reading Mr. Hamm's 1989 final draft of THE WATCHMEN!

There are many fun detours from the original source material, including an ending that MIGHT provide some clues to just HOW the Watchmen will be crossing over into the DC Universe in the very near future!

As we read 1989's WATCHMEN, Batman and the Flash are trying to solve the mystery of "The Button", the iconic, blood-spattered happy face button worn by Rorschach throughout the seminal series.

Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch what "might have been"! FREE!watchmen

DATE CHANGE! Due to scheduling conflict, The Comic Bug will host it 1 week later.  This will allow die-hard creators to possibly participate in 2 back-to-back 24 Hour Comic Book Days!!!  Thank you for your understanding.

Join us at either Comic Bug location this Wednesday to meet sci-fi comic book writer Zack Kaplan as he signs his intriguing new book PORT OF EARTH!

His last book, ECLIPSE, was one of the smartest and most compelling sci-fi books on the stands and this looks every bit as good!

Zack is signing at our Culver City shop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then at Manhattan Beach from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Don't miss it!

    More info:

Fan-favorite writer Zack Kaplan (ECLIPSE) teams up with all-star artist Andrea Mutti (Rebels, Prometheus) for a gritty new science fiction series, PORT OF EARTH, coming this November from Image Comics and Top Cow Productions. Aliens have come to Earth, not in war or peace, but with a business deal: open up a spaceport here on Earth in exchange for advanced technology. But when our alien visitors break Port restrictions and wreak havoc in our cities, it falls to the newly formed Earth Security Agency to hunt down and safely deport the dangerous rogue aliens back to the Port of Earth. “After exploring the solar apocalypse in ECLIPSE—which was just announced to be in development for TV, but more on that later—I’m thrilled to be tackling a very unique alien arrival story with another amazing creative team!” said Kaplan. “My passion for sci-fi is very ancient, beginning when I was really young with Star Wars, Star Trek, Galactica, Space 1999, UFO, Alien, and dozens of other books and comics,” said Mutti. “I was like a black hole, reading and watching everything with aliens or spaceships with a sense of wonder at the unknown in the deep universe and all of its stars and planets…it’s amazing! I’m thrilled to be on PORT OF EARTH, such a cool project, full of great visuals, action, and an emotional touch; what else could a comic artist need?”port

    Here's what else to expect!

Join us on Saturday, March 17th for our Three Year Anniversary and Nuclear Blast collaboration release party! It's guaranteed that this will be the weirdest, darkest, brewery anniversary you've ever been to...

Featuring 20+ of our own wild beer (including archived rarities) plus rare guest beer offerings from local craft breweries, delicious house-smoked BBQ, wicked music & as always -- macabre horror films. Expect a night filled with drinks and debauchery!

NUCLEAR BLAST USA + PHANTOM CARRIAGE BEER RELEASE PARTY 5PM-12AM

We are beyond excited to announce this collaboration as we have been fans of the music that Nuclear Blast puts out for many, many years… and when this opportunity came up we were stoked to partner with them and develop a unique beer that is inspired by Germany's Black Forest but is also approachable with West Coast influences.

Named after Nuclear Blast mascot, the BLAST BEAST is a Black India Pale Lager. Artwork by Blake Armstrong (www.spaceboycomics.com)

If you would like to purchase cans but wish not to attend the collaboration release party, cans will be available from our taproom starting at 4pm. After 5pm, event tickets will be required for entry.

    DEAD MARIONETTE THEATRE *LIVE SHOW*

Brace yourself for one mind-blowing evening of shock, horror, and indulgence led by the demon puppets of Dead Marionette Theatre! Show Time: 8:30pm

Dead Marionette Theatre is a fully immersive, 360-degree over-the-top experience, unlike ANYTHING you've ever witnessed!

Part rock show, part freak show, DMT is the equivalent of a RAGING party in a haunted house on the eve of the Apocalypse. Steeped with decadently offensive imagery, Dead Marionette Theatre takes aim at anything and everything with the twisted sense of humor of a serial killer.

PRE-SALE TICKETS: $15 each (plus $1 transaction fee).

Your ticket purchase will give you OUR commemorative anniversary glass, access to the outdoor festival area, DMT show, obscure vendors, rare beer tent, and indoor taproom facilities.

Normal taproom hours will take place from 12pm-12am. Our back parking lot will be closed for the entire day/night. At 5pm a ticket will be required for entry, and anyone under the age of 21 will not be permitted to stay.phantom

Join us Wednesday, March 21 as we give Sir Richard Starkings a warm welcome back to The Comic Bug to sign copies of the final issue of Elephantmen as well as the premiere issue of THE BEEF! We're teaming with the fine folks at Comic Con Revolution - Ontario to make this a very special event with festivities, pizza and more!

Long a staple of The Comic Bug community, Mr. Starkings moved to Tennessee last year and has been sorely missed within these walls ever since! Creatively and spiritually reinvigorated, he's spending his time in Tennessee spreading the gospel of comics and working on several exciting new projects, the first of which out the gate is THE BEEF with Tyler Shainline and artist Shaky Kane of BULLETPROOF COFFIN fame!

    About THE BEEF:
    beef
The creator of ELEPHANTMEN and the creator of The A-Men join forces with TYLER SHAINLINE (Liberty Justice) to bring you the story of Meat Men! Chuck is a mild-mannered meat factory worker who is a little in love with a strawberry picker named Mary Lynn. But everything changes when Mary Lynn falls victim to the Vodino Brothers….

Citizens of KRYPTON! We've heard your pleas! The Comic Bug will be opening at 11 p.m. on Tuesday for a SUPER event, everything SUPERMAN related will be 20% off as we prepare to vacate the planet for somewhere less "explodey"!

We will watch SUPERMAN IV: The Quest for Peace in the Latverian Lounge, which, thanks to Man of Steel, BvS and Justice League, is now only the FOURTH crappiest Superman movie of all time, but still lots of good cheesy fun! Speaking of CHEESE, we will have Kryptonian Cheese-Balls and crackers to help wash it all down!

Then, at midnight, we can sell you ACTION COMICS #1000, the first ever monthly comic to reach it to issue 1000! Cuz Earth is getting old and so are super-heroes!

We are still having our star-studded Super-Sketch gathering the next day with Rafael Navarro, Scott Koblish and Andrew Robinson providing amazing commission art on blank covers while supplies last on Wednesday. But there is enough SUPER to go around! See you tomorrow night!action

What if the world LITERALLY turned upside-down?

"One day, gravity on earth suddenly became a fraction of what it is now. Twenty years later, humanity has adapted to its new low-gravity reality. And to Willa Fowler, a woman born just after G-day, it's...well, it's pretty awesome, actually. You can fly through the air! I mean, sure, you can also die if you jump too high. So you just don't jump too high. And maybe don't stumble into a dangerous plan to bring gravity back that could get you killed..."

Writer JOE HENDRSON (showrunner of Fox's LUCIFER) will be signing copies and introducing you to a LOW-G WORLD!

The Sketchy Bug Group was founded when a group of South Bay creators chose to break free from the isolation of working in solitude and sought out a common place for creative work in an attempt to simulate the “bullpen” experience of comic book history. The group has been meeting every week on Wednesday nights from 6 pm to 9 pm at THE COMIC BUG in Manhattan Beach, CA since the Spring of 2013. Be it Artist or Writer, Inker or Colorist, The Sketchy Bug Group welcomes all that are enthusiastic about pursuing creations in this medium.
